Introduction
Food for Education (F4E) is a dynamic African-led, women-led social enterprise dedicated to transforming the nutritional and educational outcomes of primary school children in Kenya. Leveraging technology, smart operations, and logistics, we aim to provide low-cost, high-quality meals to school children, making education more accessible and impactful. Since our inception in 2012, we have served over 40,000,000 meals, and we continue to expand rapidly. Our goal is ambitious but attainable: by 2027, we aim to serve 1,000,000 public primary school students across Kenya every day. This transformative journey is driven by our commitment to building sustainable, efficient supply chains and sourcing practices, ensuring our school lunch program remains affordable and impactful.
As Field Program Officer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of multiple kitchens across our regions, with a focus on maintaining our high standards and operational efficiency. This role demands dedication, regular field visits, and close collaboration with kitchen teams to help deliver nutritious meals on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
As a Field Program Officer, your core responsibilities include ensuring that all production centers within your designated region operate smoothly and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Here’s a breakdown of your key duties:
- Open Production Centers on Time: Ensure all production centers open promptly across the region to guarantee timely meal preparation.
- Staff Adherence to SOPs: Monitor and enforce staff compliance with SOPs to maintain operational standards.
- Daily Projections & Waste Management: Review daily projections and guide cooks to minimize wastage.
- Ingredient & Resource Management: Record daily usage of raw ingredients, track energy and water consumption across centers, and ensure that there is no shortage of essential supplies.
- Meal Preparation Compliance: Ensure meals, such as uji and other food, are prepared according to prescribed procedures.
- Timely Reporting: Ensure all reports are submitted to the Program Analyst by noon daily, allowing for efficient oversight.
- Stock & Supply Coordination: Oversee the accurate distribution of supplies and equipment to schools, ensuring that all assets are properly maintained and documented.
- AppSheet Management: Monitor AppSheet usage for stock management, ensuring accurate data input on daily projections and consumption.
- Stock Takes: Conduct monthly stock takes for finance and operations reconciliation.
- Spot Checks: Perform regular spot checks at kitchens and schools to uphold standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure program synergy and operational optimization.
- Training & Mentorship: Conduct training, refresher courses, and mentorship for kitchen staff to improve operational accuracy and efficiency.
- Community Engagement: Organize community engagement sessions in collaboration with the community team to promote the School Feeding Program.
- Issue Resolution: Timely escalation and follow-up on operational issues in production centers and schools.
- Other Duties: Perform any additional tasks assigned by your supervisor to ensure smooth program operation.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Educational Background: A Diploma or Certificate in Data, Project Management, Business, Food and Nutrition, or a related field.
- Experience: At least one year of work experience in any sector. Experience in multi-site operations or food-related sectors is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Data Management: Familiarity with data management tools such as MS Excel is essential.
- Communication and Leadership Skills: Strong communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to problem-solve in real time and manage cross-functional teams.
- Operational Skills: Ability to manage multiple kitchens, ensure SOP compliance, conduct stock takes, and coordinate with stakeholders effectively.
- Knowledge of Food Safety Standards: Familiarity with food safety standards is crucial for this role.
- Adaptability and Learning: A quick learner with a high level of adaptability and willingness to relocate.
