We are currently looking for a dedicated Collection Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing outstanding debts, minimizing credit losses, and maximizing recoveries from both internally disbursed loans and loans disbursed through our financial partners.
Key Responsibilities
As a Collection Officer at Tenakata Enterprises Limited, you will be tasked with ensuring the timely and efficient recovery of outstanding loans. Your role will involve liaising with defaulting customers, negotiating settlements, and working closely with our Business Development Officers (BDOs) to manage and recover bad debts. Key duties will include:
- Minimizing Credit Losses: Ensure targets are met for reducing credit losses and maximizing loan recoveries from clients.
- Customer Contact: Contact defaulting customers via phone calls or in-person visits to negotiate settlements and discuss payment arrangements.
- Feedback Reporting: Provide timely feedback to management on customer payment behaviors and suggest potential improvements to business strategies.
- Collaboration with BDOs: Work closely with BDOs to handle bad debts portfolios effectively and provide the necessary support to recover overdue payments.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare, analyze, and submit regular reports on overdue accounts, recovery plans, and potential risk exposures.
- Risk Assessment: Identify, assess, and evaluate risk areas related to loan recoveries and make appropriate recommendations to improve the process.
- Data Management: Implement data clean-up procedures to ensure correct and up-to-date credit data for MSMEs. Adjust data when necessary for accurate reporting.
- Loan Recovery: Ensure proper recovery of outstanding loan amounts, including handling the realization of securities in a legal and procedural manner. Avoid delays and unnecessary litigation, while respecting the defaulting client’s rights.
- Loan Approvals: Approve loans within your authority limit and facilitate further approvals from the Branch Manager for larger loan amounts.
- Team Supervision: Review the capacity and training needs of the credit department personnel to ensure efficient operations.
- Additional Duties: Perform any additional duties as designated by the company from time to time, in alignment with your role as a Collection Officer.
Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in financial services, particularly in loan recoveries and working with MSMEs. The ideal candidate will have:
- Education: A diploma or degree in a relevant field such as sales, marketing, or finance.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in debt recoveries, ideally within a financial institution. Experience dealing with customers at the bottom of the financial pyramid is an added advantage.
- Computer Literacy: Strong computer skills and familiarity with financial software systems.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage with defaulting customers and resolve issues effectively.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Demonstrated ability to assess risks and make sound decisions to facilitate loan recoveries.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
