Introduction:
Tenakata Enterprises Limited is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Officer to join our team. We are an industry leader in providing innovative financial services to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Our mission is to empower businesses through financial literacy, mentorship, and access to capital via our proprietary mobile platform. This role presents an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the financial growth and development of MSMEs across Kenya.
As a Business Development Officer, you will play a pivotal role in recruiting, registering, and supporting MSMEs in designated project clusters. You will work closely with small business owners, helping them capture daily business transactions, evaluate their performance, and facilitate their onboarding to our Management Information System (MIS) for access to credit. This position offers a unique chance to grow your career while contributing to the financial empowerment of local entrepreneurs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit MSMEs: Actively recruit and register MSMEs, collecting baseline data using the Tenakata mobile app to facilitate business growth and development.
- Mentorship and Support: Provide ongoing mentorship to MSMEs, ensuring they receive tailored advisory services to meet their development goals.
- Access to Finance: Support MSMEs in navigating the application processes for financing, assisting them in managing received funds to scale their businesses.
- Loan Appraisals and Monitoring: Participate in the loan appraisal process, monitor disbursed loans, and ensure funds are utilized for the intended purpose. Conduct timely follow-ups to ensure prompt repayments.
- Due Diligence and KYC: Conduct thorough Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks and due diligence to ensure customer viability, adhering to company procedures.
- Relationship Management: Collaborate with Collections Officers to adopt a relationship management approach. Maintain strong relationships with customers and market authorities, gathering valuable business intelligence.
- Repayment Management: Oversee loan repayments through consistent follow-ups, negotiation of repayment schedules, and maintaining accurate interaction records in company systems.
- Additional Responsibilities: Assist with any other tasks as directed by the Branch Manager.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: A University degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Project Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience working with MSMEs, especially in informal settings or micro-enterprises.
- Additional Training: Experience in financial management and literacy within the MSME sector will be a significant advantage.
- Sales Experience: Previous experience in sales is highly desirable and will be considered an added advantage.
