Job Purpose
The IT Officer Intern will be responsible for maintaining existing systems and providing ICT technical support to hospital users. This includes assisting both clinical and administrative staff, ensuring that the hospital’s network and IT infrastructure operate smoothly and securely.
Key Responsibilities
As the IT Officer Intern, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support: Offer technical assistance and training to hospital staff, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and support users with day-to-day IT needs.
- Enhancing IT literacy: Address basic IT-related inquiries to improve staff’s IT literacy and proficiency, empowering them to work more efficiently.
- Network administration: Handle the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the hospital’s network (LAN/WAN). This includes configuring network equipment, monitoring network security, and resolving connectivity issues.
- Hardware maintenance: Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, IP phones, and other peripherals.
- IT project assistance: Support ongoing IT projects such as system upgrades and software implementations. Collaborate on various technology initiatives to enhance hospital operations.
- Adherence to IT service guidelines: Follow established protocols for IT service delivery, incident management, and problem resolution, ensuring a high standard of support.
- Staying updated on emerging technologies: Keep up with the latest trends and best practices in healthcare IT to recommend improvements and innovations.
- Training and development: Attend training sessions and professional development programs to stay current with new IT skills and knowledge.
- Data security and privacy: Follow security protocols when handling sensitive patient data and report any security breaches immediately to the IT Manager.
- Process optimization: Identify opportunities for optimizing IT processes, increasing automation, and improving overall efficiency within the IT department.
- Preventive maintenance: Conduct regular preventive maintenance on IT equipment to minimize disruptions and downtime.
- Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the IT Manager, contributing to the overall success of the IT team.
Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for the IT Officer Intern role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Educational qualifications: A Diploma or BSc in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Availability: Must be available to work full-time for the six-month duration of the internship program.
- Recent graduate: Must have graduated with a degree or diploma within the last two years.
- Technical knowledge: Basic understanding of network and system security, familiarity with hardware and software installation.
- Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical abilities to troubleshoot and resolve IT issues efficiently.
Required Experience
While previous work experience is not mandatory, applicants with exposure to IT support in any environment will be given preference. Hands-on experience in a helpdesk or technical support role is an advantage.
Technical Skills and Competencies
