AFIDEP is looking for a Resource Mobilization Officer to join our dynamic Business Development Department, supporting the strategic implementation of our Resource Mobilization Strategy. This is a full-time position based in Nairobi, Kenya, with additional responsibilities tied to our Lilongwe, Malawi Office.
Job Title: Resource Mobilization Officer – Nairobi, Kenya
As a Resource Mobilization Officer, you will be integral to driving AFIDEP’s resource mobilization efforts, which are crucial for expanding and sustaining our initiatives across Africa. You will work closely with a wide range of departments, including policy engagement, finance, administration, and monitoring and evaluation. You will also collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance partnership opportunities and contribute to the long-term growth of the institute.
This position requires a motivated, organized, and resourceful individual with a strong background in business development, grant management, and proposal development. Your role will directly impact AFIDEP’s ability to secure funding, build partnerships, and grow our institutional presence.
Key Responsibilities of the Resource Mobilization Officer
1. Strategic Planning & Implementation
- Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of the Business Development Department’s work plan, aligning it with AFIDEP’s overall Resource Mobilization Strategy.
- Support the continuous improvement of resource mobilization strategies, processes, and procedures to drive sustainable growth for the institute.
2. Fundraising & Partnership Development
- Research potential funders and update historical maps in fundraising applications such as the Microsoft Fundraising and Engagement tool, ensuring our data is current and actionable.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with AFIDEP’s key partners, including research organizations, academia, government, civil society, and media to optimize proposal development.
- Scan for relevant calls for proposals and concept notes, generating timely summaries to support decision-making processes.
3. Proposal Development & Grant Applications
- Play an active role in proposal development, including conducting background research, gathering project-specific information, and customizing resumes and biographies to align with specific calls for proposals.
- Support registration with funders’ and partners’ online submission platforms to streamline application processes.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Coordinate and contribute to engagement with funders and partners, building and nurturing relationships that enhance AFIDEP’s reputation and influence within the research and development community.
- Populate and maintain partnership assessment and due diligence documentation, ensuring compliance and transparency in all collaborative efforts.
5. Event Planning & Strategic Networking
- Plan and participate in events and meetings relevant to resource mobilization and partnership building, representing AFIDEP’s interests and broadening its network.
- Support strategic events planning, ensuring alignment with AFIDEP’s long-term goals for policy engagement and resource growth.
6. Monitoring & Reporting
- Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the Business Development Department’s impact, regularly reporting on progress towards resource mobilization targets and the success of fundraising activities.
- Develop comprehensive reports to share insights on successful proposals, partner relationships, and areas for improvement.
Required Qualifications & Skills for the Role
1. Educational Qualifications
- A university degree in social sciences, humanities, international development, communications, or other related fields is required.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable and will be considered an asset in this role.
2. Professional Experience
- At least five years of demonstrable experience in a similar role, with expertise in business development, proposal writing, grants management, strategic communications, and event planning within a non-profit, research, or academic environment.
- Proven experience working with international development organizations such as USAID, NIH, EU, FCDO, NIHR, IDRC, and global foundations is a strong advantage.
3. Core Competencies & Skills
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a multicultural and interdisciplinary context.
- Excellent organizational abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in writing, editing, proofreading, and synthesizing data for proposals and reports.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various teams, including finance, grants, administration, and human resources.
