Established as a leading academic institution, Kirinyaga University has its roots in the Kirinyaga Technical Institute, which was conceived in 1971. As the university continues to grow, it prioritizes maintaining security across its campus. To this end, the institution is seeking two dedicated Security Guards to join its team. This role is critical in ensuring that the campus remains a safe and orderly place for learning, research, and community activities.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced and reliable individuals to become part of the Kirinyaga University security team. Successful candidates will be responsible for enforcing university rules, preventing unauthorized access, and ensuring the safety and security of the university premises, personnel, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities of the Security Guards
Security is a vital aspect of university operations. In this role, your duties will include:
- Patrolling and Monitoring: Conduct regular patrols of university premises to detect and respond to security issues.
- Perimeter Security: Ensure the integrity of the university’s perimeter fence by preventing unauthorized access and securing weak points.
- Protection of Property: Safeguard university property, preventing losses, theft, or damages.
- Enforcement of Regulations: Enforce university rules and regulations, ensuring compliance by students, staff, and visitors.
- Fire Safety Assistance: Assist in responding to fire emergencies, including helping with firefighting efforts as required.
- Maintenance of Law and Order: Maintain peace on campus, intervening in disturbances or violations of university policies.
- Traffic Control: Regulate vehicular movement and ensure that parking areas are secure and well-organized.
- Surveillance Duties: Conduct surveillance of high-risk areas using technology (e.g., CCTV) and physical patrols to deter potential security breaches.
- Access Control: Vet and screen individuals (students, staff, visitors) entering or exiting the university premises.
- Crime Prevention: Take proactive measures to prevent crime, including monitoring suspicious activities and reporting potential threats.
- Incident Reporting: Report all security incidents in a timely manner and maintain accurate security logs.
- Other Duties: Perform other related security tasks as assigned by the Security Supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- KCSE Certificate: Applicants must hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- On-the-Job Training or Disciplined Forces Service: Prior experience or service in the disciplined forces (e.g., police, military) is highly preferred.
- National Youth Service Training: Completion of the National Youth Service (NYS) program is an added advantage.
- Work Experience: At least three (3) years of proven experience in security service.
- Certificate of Good Conduct: Must possess a valid certificate of good conduct from the Kenya Police Service.
Desired Skills:
- Surveillance and Monitoring Skills: Ability to operate basic security systems, including cameras and alarms, is highly desirable.
- Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with university staff and external visitors.
- Conflict Resolution: Ability to handle disputes and conflict situations calmly and professionally.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to conduct extended patrols and respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Attention to Detail: Keen observation skills to identify potential security breaches or irregularities.
