This is a rare opportunity to lead from the front. As the Warehouse Operations Manager for a UK startup branch of a global third-party logistics (3PL) powerhouse, you will be entrusted with launching the entire warehouse from scratch. That means being responsible for layout, procurement, systems setup, recruiting your own team, and building out processes that are not just functional—but best-in-class.
You won’t be maintaining or taking over something that already exists—you will be building the foundation that determines the performance, compliance, and success of the entire UK logistics network for the company.

Scope of Responsibilities – You’ll Lead the Entire UK Warehouse Lifecycle
1. Warehouse Setup and Infrastructure Development:
- Design the warehouse layout, ensuring logical flows between goods-in, storage, picking, packing, and outbound
- Manage the procurement and installation of racking, forklifts, conveyors, and packaging stations
- Ensure that the warehouse adheres to UK HSE regulations, fire safety, and employee welfare laws
- Collaborate with external contractors and suppliers for timely delivery and installation
2. Systems Integration and Process Engineering:
- Customize and implement the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and integrate with upstream ERP systems
- Define and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for receiving, storage, dispatch, and returns
- Develop scalable operational frameworks for multi-client warehousing
- Ensure full visibility of stock through barcoding, scanning, and system validation
3. Recruitment and Team Building:
- Lead the hiring process for warehouse operatives, team leads, and supervisors
- Build training plans for both full-time and temporary staff
- Create a high-performance, inclusive team culture based on safety, speed, and accuracy
- Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching for continuous improvement
4. Operations Management and Daily Execution:
- Manage day-to-day warehouse operations, including order fulfillment, shipping, cycle counts, and returns
- Resolve escalations, delays, or inventory discrepancies swiftly and professionally
- Maintain tight coordination with carriers, couriers, and hauliers for outbound freight
- Implement robust quality assurance and service level agreements (SLAs) with client KPIs
5. Cost Control, Reporting and Strategic Analysis:
- Track daily, weekly, and monthly operational metrics (e.g., pick accuracy, inventory turnover, order cycle times)
- Use dashboards and reporting tools to share insights with senior management
- Monitor operational expenditure and identify areas to reduce costs
- Present quarterly business reviews to stakeholders and suggest data-backed innovations
6. Global Collaboration and Compliance:
- Coordinate with global supply chain partners to align cross-border operations
- Communicate with HQ in Mandarin (if applicable) for reporting, compliance, and escalation
- Understand and comply with UK border requirements, including customs clearance and Brexit-related logistics law

Candidate Requirements – Skills and Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, or e-commerce fulfillment
- Experience in leading end-to-end warehouse setup
- Proficiency in WMS/ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP
- Team leadership skills with 2+ years managing 10 or more warehouse staff
- Proficient in Excel, Power BI or Tableau for performance tracking
- Excellent spoken and written English
Desirable (Bonus) Skills:
- Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese for communicating with HQ
- Exposure to cross-border e-commerce logistics
- ISO9001 or Six Sigma certification
- Experience managing 3PL accounts or client SLAs
Location and Logistics
You’ll be based in the East Midlands region, ideally close to the M1 corridor. This location provides strategic proximity to national highway infrastructure, freight hubs, and airports, allowing for scalable outbound operations across the UK and into Europe.
